What's in Your Makeup Kit?

You get out from your building, tired and ready to wind down but then your best friend calls for an impromptu dinner at a posh restaurant down the corner to celebrate her coming home from a hiatus in Nepal. Do you rush home, risk traffic, just to make yourself up or head to the comfort room, do a little retouch, and check in at the restaurant early?

You've probably gone through a point in your life where you just can't stay put in one place, even for a cup of coffee. A number of reasons from school, work, and family have the potential of sucking the life out of you. You end up looking tired, unkept, and in most cases, like a zombie.

So to keep yourself looking pretty all day, you've probably armed yourself with an emergency tool: a good ol' makeup kit. They say that different women have different beauty needs, but there is always a set of mainstays in every woman's pouch. Here are some of them.

Coral Lipstick

Red may be too dressy for casual while lip glosses and nudes might be lacking in the oomph factor for semi-formal occassions. Go midway and have a coral lipstick on hand. Always.

Blush

A little blush goes a long way in bringing life and color to your face. Pick a shade that's nearest to how your cheeks flush after exercise. Choose this over bronzer since the latter is difficult to pull of for evenings.

Lip Balm

Don't you just hate chapped lips and windburn? They're painful! Always have with you a deep moisturizing lip balm to prevent your lips from flaking. It also helps plump up your puckers when you apply it after brushing or exfoliating them.

Moisturizer with SPF

Did you know that you can get that dewy look back hours after applying your makeup just by dabbing on a little moisturizer? It also helps if it has SPF protection since UV rays can also come from LCD monitors.

Perfume Samples

Don't throw away those tiny sample bottles of perfumes you get from magazines and department stores. They'll last you a week of everyday use. Once you've used it all up, wash the container with water and baking soda to remove the scent, and fill it up with your favorite perfume.

Hand Sanitizer

Use this before touching food. In addition, use it before touching your face, eyes, and lips.

Floss

When toothpicks don't quite do the job, use a floss. It's important to have one in your pouch especially when you're planning on eating out.

Eyeliner

Keep both liquid and pencil eyeliners in your kit. Go for softer shades such as ash, or coffee as black may be too dark.

Facial Tissue

This is for cleaning up after yourself or simply removing makeup errors.

Makeup Remover

This is for when you're about to do a quick change in wardrobe or are en route to the bar from the office. It's almost always easier to put on makeup on a clean surface.
